He cunningly got his friends to not only beg to do the work for him but also to pay him for the privilege! Back at school, Tom and Becky are still fighting. As he begins his task, Aunt Polly's slave, Jim, comes by and Tom tries to bribe him into helping, but Aunt Polly sends Jim on his business. Becky returns to town, and all the children except Huck go on a picnic to McDougal's Cave. Joe is a half Native American, a drunkard, and murderer. Mark started as a printer and even worked as a helmsman on the river Mississippi.

Robinson's killer. Characters Tom Sawyer: the protagonist of the novel. At one point in their ordeal, Tom catches sight of Injun Joe in a nearby passage. I must say I probably wouldn't have enjoyed listening to this half as much if the reader hadn't been so excellent.

When he meets up with Huck, Tom informs him that he knows where the treasure is buried. Even though the locals already said goodbye to Tom and Becky they came back healthy and alive. Tom Sawyer is both a wonderful children's book and a book perfect for adults who still are children at heart. The three men are grave robbing! Instead, they find Injun Joe again. In fear they ran away to an island but soon came back home when they learned that their parents thought they were dead.
